Why I do what I do

Helping you live a healthier, more balanced life.

My passion is to help people thrive as individuals and in relationships.

I have worked as a marriage, family, and addiction counselor for over 30 years, including 15 in close collaboration with churches in the Harrisburg, Hershey, and York areas. I'm more enthusiastic than ever about helping people overcome life's challenges.  I'm looking forward to speaking with you.

I use brief, solution-focused therapy. After just 6-8 sessions, clients can often understand what’s been happening in their relationships, and have a good sense of what to do about it.

Love is not a feeling, but a choice that can be lived and practiced.

What to know about my practice before you schedule an appointment

My counseling practice is primarily relational, rather than clinical. It works best if everyone that we are trying to help is actually in the room and committed to improving the relationship. If you are experiencing complex psychological distress, are going through a custody battle or have already separated from your partner, you may benefit from a different type of professional support.

I believe in the beauty and sanctity of family, and in the potential for each person to live a happy and fulfilled life in relationship with others. However, I understand that not all relationships are mutually beneficial. Sometimes a separation can be the healthiest thing to do, or even a necessary step.

If there's an active addiction present in a relationship, I've found that it often works best to treat the addiction first, before moving towards couples therapy and marriage counseling.

I work from a fundamentally Christian worldview. While there's no requirement for us to share faith in order to benefit from counseling, I want to be transparent about my own foundations.

Choosing a counselor is an important decision, and I want you to have the best experience. For that reason, I dedicate the first session as an initial consultation where we can get to know one another and discuss your goals. From there, we can determine if working together is likely to give you the best outcomes, and set a cadence for an initial series of sessions together.

Preparing for counseling

Take some time to reflect on why you are seeking counseling. What do you want to see change or improve in your life? How important is it for you to see that change?

Schedule:
